Description

Hi all,

Just wanted to share the list that got me to champion this season. To be fair, I think this list is far from optimized, and I'm not even sure rainbow is the best way to go given how good Godsblut is (and godsblut + enchantments is too many non-minions in my opinion). Through mythril I played mainly Orange-Blue, but various iterations. This is the version that got me the last 8-1 streak to get out. There are a couple of experiments in there. Firstly I went for quite some swift action, this as a reaction to the many aggressive decks with honed edge and godsblut after the patch. Blocking just had such a big chance of being swept out by a buff it could lose the game on the spot. With swift you can block a spot away, and come in for the trade without losing the risk of a bad value trade. Sand Scout is particularly effective for such a strategy with a Thieves Bazaar as it doesn't die then. To be fair, this scenario didn't play out as often as I'd like though. I was quite happy with Freki Scout as a defender to make early trades though (1 mana is such a huge difference). The experiment I'm super happy with is Ravine Guardian. That card is such a good road bump to aggressive decks and buys so much time, it's great. It's even better in a deck with godsblut (in my non-rainbow list) as they curve super well into another. I'm starting to believe that Ravine Guardian is heavily underplayed, I even rate it above Thane in this deck.

Besides the above experimentation, the rest of the list is pretty standard for a rainbow list, 12 enchantments for mana and horn with overrun minions (or speedway) to finish the game. Love the movement of Sandscale Worm when putting a desert under it, and still didn't manage to get a board full of deserts unfortunately with the Desertification Engine (did got close once!).

In terms of budget variant, I believe Armageddon Angel and Scion of Pride are the first two orange mythics one should craft anyway, the same goes for Magnus and Bragi. The Engine and Kara can certainly be replaced, and to be fair, also the first four. Generally I would do something like this to replace mythics:

Armageddon Angel -> Mardykhor

Scion of Pride -> Mardykhor

Desertification Engine -> Shadavar Beast (or third Serendipity)

Magnus -> Thunderclap

Bragi -> Fossegrim

Kara -> Fossegrim
